An inversion layer higher up was creating a lot of haze which decreased visibility quite a bit. The Elder range is in the background to the right.

Mt Alec in the Elder Range is often photographed. It’s formation is spectacular, highlighted in the morning by the rising sun.
A different view of the mount this morning, its peak almost hidden in the clouds still hanging around from the night’s previous storms.

There has been summer rains several times in the previous weeks around Wilpena and Mt. Alec, the green healthy vegetation quite noticeable.

Before, during and after bad weather is always a good time to be out looking for interesting light.

I took some friends through the Flinders Ranges National Park a little while ago and this is one of the lookouts we stopped at briefly.

It’s one of the most photographed scenes in the Park. It highly probable you have seen it somewhere before, or perhaps even taken one yourself.

It is the road to Bunyeroo Gorge with Wilpena Pound in the background.

I can’t say I have done anything creative here….just stood at the lookout and taken the shot, hand held. f18, 1/40th sec, ISO 100.

Still, it is a pretty impressive vista with all the ingredients for making a fine photo.

Even a cold and overcast day can’t completely dull the rich colours of the lichen covered rocks around Wilpena Pound in the central Flinders Ranges.

This is the south-west corner of the Pound, an area regularly visited because of the spectacular escarpments in the background.

Rocks in a different setting in two new photographs posted in the Overflow section which you can jump to by clicking here.

It’s easy to tell, judging but the height of the embankment, that the waters dumped in this downpour are but a drop in the ocean.

It’s unfortunate panorama images like this get so compressed on the web.

This was one of the shots taken for the 6 metre wide panorama project early this year that did not get used.

Wilpena Pound and the central Flinders Ranges around the Aroona Valley area in all its early morning glory.

Along the Moralana Drive with the southern walls of Wilpena Pounds in the background, central Flinders Ranges.

It’s interesting to note how stock fences were made years ago. Very different from the all-metal ones today.

Perhaps the chicken wire was used in a vain attempt to control rabbits too.

Wilpena Pound in the distance. Central Flinders Ranges.

The Pound, in many directions is surrounded by flat grazing country or rolling hills.

A photograph taken towards the end of summer from the Hawker-Cradock Road.

I was attracted the three elements in this image and the muted colours.

With a little imagination this could just about be anywhere in the world.

I can imagine it being in Canada, the United States, even many places in Europe.

But it’s in the Flinders Ranges looking down the Aroona Valley towards Wilpena Pound.

It was one of those scenes that is quite striking when you come across it.

Something that is worth a photograph.

It looks almost out of place in the Flinders due to our unusually wet spring and summer.

Shot at f22 @ 1/125 sec, ISO 400. Focal length 190mm with the usual Canon 5D MK II and a 28-300mm lens
