For anyone not familiar with the Flinders Ranges, particularly around Arkaba Station, the hills in the middle distance with those distinctive tops, signify old seabed that was pushed out of shape by movement of the earth’s crust.

The Calitris pines are also prolific around these parts.

Looking roughly south-east here from the high ground of the Elder Range.

Arkaba Station, once an historical Flinders Ranges sheep station and renown for its beauty nestles between Wilpena Pound and the Elder Range.

The Elder Range and Mt Alex are easily the most prominent landmarks on Arkaba Station but this is the view in reverse.

Looking east across the Arkaba’s rolling hills and peaks as the sun climbs into the morning sky.

The Chase Range is off in the distance.

Seasonal Colours – Arkaba Station https://petermacdonaldphoto.com.au/2012/07/a-variety-of-landscapes/ Wed, 18 Jul 2012 12:34:29 +0000 http://thesentimentalbloke.com/?p=3180

There’s a wide range of landscapes in the Flinders Ranges and the seasons can have quite a bearing on all of them.

Its certainly not all red rocks and jagged peaks, although these are what the area is most famous for.

The rolling hills of Arkaba Station near Wilpena Pound make an interesting change of scenery at this time of year and can easily be seen along the Moralana Drive that runs through the property.

Because of good winter rains the next few months promise to be a special time for those who are fortunate enough to visit.
