After the passing of a dust storm there follows a period of eerie gloom which can go on for quite a while.

It produced this this case, interest and quite artistic effects, almost like pencil sketches.

This old bore and tank is on Wooltana cattle station in South Australia’s far north.

Strong winds here today reminded me that it would be dust storm weather if it wasn’t for the lush growth of vegetation that’s around at the moment.

Here’s a photograph taken about eighteen months ago,

In other words, before the long years of drought had broken and when dust storms were a pretty regular occurrence.

For some reason this storm was almost a white out…the raised dust being more white than usual.

Coupled with the muted sun’s rays, it made for a really eerie atmosphere and an interesting effect for the photograph.

This is the old tack shed at Arkaroola, built more than a hundred years ago to house the saddles, bridles and harnesses for the horses and camels that were used for transport in those days.

The effects of the drought can easily be seen on the bushes in the foreground.
