{"id":2924,"date":"2012-04-29T22:14:21","date_gmt":"2012-04-29T11:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesentimentalbloke.com\/?p=2924"},"modified":"2012-04-29T22:14:21","modified_gmt":"2012-04-29T11:44:21","slug":"a-quirk-of-nature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/petermacdonaldphoto.com.au\/2012\/04\/a-quirk-of-nature\/","title":{"rendered":"A Quirk of Nature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/petermacdonaldphoto.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Albino-Rock-Wallaby.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/petermacdonaldphoto.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Albino-Rock-Wallaby.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Albino Rock Wallaby\" width=\"640\" height=\"514\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2925\" srcset=\"https:\/\/petermacdonaldphoto.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Albino-Rock-Wallaby.jpg 640w, https:\/\/petermacdonaldphoto.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Albino-Rock-Wallaby-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the bonuses of the recent workshop at Arkaroola was coming across a really rare sight.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an albino yellow-footed rock wallaby.<\/p>\n<p>Numbers of these animals have been in decline for many years so an albino is a fairly rare creature.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from having a striking resemblance to a stuffed toy, the albino is at least twice as big as a normal fully grown member of the species and possibly even bigger.<\/p>\n<p>Typical yellow-foots are about the size seen in the photo <a href=\"https:\/\/petermacdonaldphoto.com.au\/2011\/08\/a-foothold-on-the-rock-face\/\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The animal in the right hand corner of this photograph is probably an offspring of the albino which is a female and has a joey in the pouch.<\/p>\n<p>Albino animals are usually very sensitive to sunlight and this wallaby is no different. It wasn&#8217;t until I noticed something different about her eyes that I magnified the picture and found that her eyelids and eye lashes had grown very large as protection again sunlight.<\/p>\n<p>The albino seems to have adapted to her environment despite here generic handicap.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the bonuses of the recent workshop at Arkaroola was coming across a really rare sight.
