It must be nearly Spring…..the Nightshades are out already
Potato Bush and Native Tomato have very attractive purple flowers and can be seen right through the arid areas of central Australia.
The fruit are valuable aboriginal bush foods traditionally gathered in large amounts and then ground to form a paste and rolled into large balls and sun-dried.
However a word of warning. The edible nightshades or solanums grow right beside ones that are very poisonous. They attack the liver and can be fatal so its best to leave them all well alone.
Very pretty to look at though, and easy to find as they grow along most roadsides. Many of the Acacias are starting to bloom too.
